Need help in a OLD town in Lithuania?

Lundi, août 11th, 2008

There are some 20,000 villages in Lithuania, which is about the size of Ireland. This is the best site for finding villages and their locations:

http://www.jewishgen.org/ShtetlSeeker/LocTown.asp

You will want to limit your search to Lithuania, which you can select in the menu.

Please note that the Lithuanian alphabet does not have a W in it. V’s were often changed to W’s when the words came to the US.

The search tool at the ShtetlSeeker site is sophisticated enough that you don’t have to have the absolutely correct spelling. But if you don’t find the name, play around with the spelling a bit.

If all of this fails, there is an excellent discussion group on www.jewishgen.org. Almost certainly there will be someone there who can help you.

And if that doesn’t work (which I’m pretty sure it will), post your question on this site:
http://genforum.genealogy.com/lithuania/

They love digging out the correct spelling of obscure Lithuanian villages.

Good luck. I’ll bet that you find the location of the village!

Prinzmetal is a pain ;)?

Dimanche, août 10th, 2008

Your doctor should be aware of your pain. Does your doctor know you have this pain almost every day. Ideally, each and every occurrence of chest pain could be evaluated for a heart attack, but your doctor should have told you what to do with chest pain. Is there any reason you do not have prescription nitro glycerin–the kind you put under your tongue and if the pain is not relieved after the 3rd, you go to the emergency room. Are you on any medications which could be causing this discomfort. When was your last EKG? You need to be in contact with your doctor about the continuance of pain you feel instead of on line. Your doctor knows your medications and history. Maybe it’s time for a cardiac catheterization to check and see what’s going on…..

Am I worthy of a career in photography? Pictures included.?

Samedi, août 9th, 2008

Yes…you have good potential and talent. The cat pictures are poorly “framed”, but good color and focus. The harbor photos are also good, but taken on an overcast day, leaving an unclear, somewhat foggy image. There is nothing you can do about THAT except try it on another day, or another time of the day.
The next step is to purchase professional equipment and lenses and go from there. Try starting with outdoor photography and getting a macro (close focusing) lens. You might enjoy insects, animals or flowers. If you are using 35mm camera SELL THEM and switch to digital, which will actually SAVE you money in the long run. Don’t be afraid to enroll in some photography classes at the community center or college. You learn faster this way, and it will be money well invested. Apart from that, practice, practice, practice…..

What are the pros and cons of ‘revaluing’ a nation’s currency?

Vendredi, août 8th, 2008

Various countries including many of the Gulf states have their currency pegged to the dollar, so that when the dollar rises or falls their currency follows.

Soaring oil prices and increased exports from Gulf states have boosted demand for their currencies, and this would normally cause their currencies to strengthen. However, the dollar has been falling and so therefore must their currencies. This results in inflationary pressure, as a weak currency means expensive imports.

Theoretically, leaving a dollar peg system would mean that their currencies could be valued at a market rate (ie, one determined by supply and demand). This would therefore result in a stronger currency and reduced inflation. This would be a free-floating exchange rate system, but there are questions as to whether these countries would be capable of independant monetary policy.

An alternative idea, as you mentionned is a ‘bread basket of currencies’. This involves pegging their exchange rate against a variety of currencies perhaps including the Euro, Yen, Dollar etc. This would give these countries more protection against oil-price swings, or a rapid change in the value of the dollar. However, the basket would still tend to be made up of oil exporters, so it is not a perfect fit by any means.

If these countries were to abandon the dollar, others could follow, possibly resulting in a large sell off of dollars, dropping its value further. In the US, this is likely to cause inflationary pressures.

I hope this helps

There are a couple of good Economist articles on this:

I have two tennis issues?

Jeudi, août 7th, 2008

I enjoy singles more than doubles. Yes, you can lose because of your partner. Doubles can be harder - and for me, not as much fun. But part of high school sports (my son is on the high school tennis team - and has to play doubles) is to pay your dues, contribute to the team and get better. Don’t complain to the coach because that is kind of a bad attitude. Just work your butt off and show the coach on the court how good you are. Your turn will come and you can play singles and show your stuff!! Also, coaches have a very hard job - most of the kids think they should be higher on the ladder than they are and the coach has to juggle priorities and also let everyone get a shot. Enjoy yourself!! I wish I had been on the high school tennis team! Hope this helps - you sound like a great player who will become very, very good over time because you enjoy it so much.

Very cranky….?

Mercredi, août 6th, 2008

Wow…insanity on the screen… Illyana’s illiterate Mommy gives some BS sugar coated answer, then givens a NASTY attack by the FAKE do your own thinking… Does she know how sad she is?
Hasn’t social services taken her kid yet?
She’s done this to others, you know- IM’ed them, acted all friendly, and then insulted them AND their children using her fake personas. She’s a very sick little girl, and is the type that give teen moms like yourself a bad name to struggle against. Fortunately, you seem sane. That said, the antibiotics will fight infection but will do NOTHING for discomfort or to soothe her. You can give her Tylenol, cool compresses, dress her lightly, and just be there for her.
Hope she feels better. Paranoid has nothing to do with teenage, I had my first at 24, I’m still ‘paranoid’ when it comes to my children’s well-being.

Burnout???

Mardi, août 5th, 2008

Depending on the transmission type that you have. An automatic or standard. automatic you will eventually burn it up, the standard you could burn the clutch or bust the gears inside it… As for the rear end it is a clutch pack unit. depending on if you are getting a grab and release posi. meaning that it will be positrac for a min, then release then grab. that will eventually tear the differential up. there is also something else that is possible to tear up as well, that is the traction control. if it is installed on the car from factory. Now on to the one nobody touched on. The engine side of this burnout. The 4.6 litter engine is a pretty strong engine and capable of making some good horses. What you need to watch out for is long high rpm burnouts with out the proper modifications done to the engine. These engines are a zero clearence engine. meaning there is little to no clearence between the piston and valve. All it would take to tear the engine up is one good long too high of an rpm burn out to float a valve and then your done. So that’s just some of the damage that can occur when doing a long burnout. hope this helps you a bit.

Ice Skating Date?

Lundi, août 4th, 2008

If I was going on an ice skating date I wouldn’t wear yoga pants. I think they’re a bit too formal. I’m a figure skater and unless I plan on practicing while I’m there I wear a pair of jeans with a bit of stretch to them. If you fall alot then I can understand not wanting to wear an item of clothing that will get wet and stay wet, but for a date you want to look cute. I think jeans and a cute top are more wearable if you decide to go somewhere after. To the rink I would wear a cute sweater if you don’t want to wear a bulky sweatshirt. As for shoes, unless the guy is very metro he probably won’t notice, so wear whatever is cute and comfortable.

Addressing the day date thing… I don’t think that’s true. I’ve been on dates during the day, they just aren’t as formal. I think the real determiner is if the guy pays for you. The only place I’ve ever heard of a date during the day being not a real date is from the movie “Just Friends”.

what is the function of parathyroid hormone?

Dimanche, août 3rd, 2008

Parathyroid hormone (PTH) is secreted by the parathyroid glands. It has several actions, but perhaps the most important is to defend against hypocalcemia. Parathyroid cells sense decreases in plasma Ca and, in response, release preformed PTH into the circulation. PTH increases plasma Ca within minutes by increasing renal and intestinal absorption of Ca and by rapidly mobilizing Ca and PO4 from bone (bone resorption). Renal Ca excretion generally parallels Na excretion and is influenced by many of the same factors that govern Na transport in the proximal tubule. However, PTH enhances distal tubular Ca reabsorption independently of Na. PTH also decreases renal PO4 reabsorption and thus increases renal PO4 losses. Renal PO4 loss prevents the solubility product of Ca and PO4 from being exceeded in plasma as Ca levels rise in response to PTH.
PTH also increases plasma Ca by stimulating conversion of vitamin D (see Vitamin Deficiency, Dependency, and Toxicity: Vitamin D) to its most active form, 1,25(OH)2D. This form of vitamin D increases the percentage of dietary Ca absorbed by the intestine. Despite increased Ca absorption, long-term increases in PTH secretion generally result in further bone resorption by inhibiting osteoblastic function and promoting osteoclastic activity. PTH and vitamin D both function as important regulators of bone growth and bone remodeling
Please see the web pages for more details on Parathyroid hormone.

I’ve been off the pill for 2 1/2 months and my periods are regular but I have not conceived….?

Samedi, août 2nd, 2008

We are a fast food society. When we want something we want it NOW. We don’t like to wait and we don’t like to be told to wait so when we find out that it “might” take months or YEARS to concieve a baby it drives us insaine and we obsess over the idea of gettting pregnant and romantisize life after baby gets there. You need to just relax, take a deep breath, and if you are truely serious about wanting to become proactive in your ttc efforts start with reading Taking Charge of Your Fertility and start charting your cycles. If you are that baby crazy that you can’t stand it, you need to take a closer look at your cycles to determine when you ovulate, IF you are ovulating and IF you are timing sex to actually catch that eggie as it emerges from the ovary. Good luck!
